Web testing is done for 3 tier application. Here we will be having Browser, Web server and Database server.
Following tests would be performed on web applicaton:
1. User interface testing for validation & user friendliness
2. Functionality testing to validate behaviors
3. Security testing
4. Browser compatibility
5. Load / stress testing
6. Interoperability testing
7. Storage & data volume testing

Client Server application is 2 tier application. Here we will be having front-end and backend.

Following tests would be performed on web applicaton:

1. User interface testing
2. Manual support testing
3. Functionality testing
4. Compatibility testing
5. Intersystem testing

Client Server application runs in two or more machines and have limited number of users. It is usually developer for LAN.
Parimal..sorry to say ..i do not agree with the former one "Web testing is done for 3 tier application"...if i have a simple web site with static content which is hosted on live server.is it a 3 tier application?

There are 3 layers in 3 tier arch..first presentation layer, second business logic and third, data access layer which together constitutes 3 tier architecture.
It's not necessary for web application to have 3 tier arch..correct me if i am wrong....

Anyways thanx for your nice article...
@ Bibek,

Web Application is N tier, N = 1 to Infinity

And more over why static content has to be hosted on a Liver server???

Do you think Presentation, Business and data layers are exclusive to Web applications??? Why>>
Ya Abu..
Web Application is N tier,no doubt..where i have said it's not :)

static content....just giving example that it's a web application and it's not 3-tier..as said above @parimal

Presentation, Business and data layers are exclusive to Web applications??? No it's not exclusive to web application only....i doubt...cud u plz shed some light on it...
I was answering to Parimal on Web Application is N tier, N = 1 to Infinity>>

Client Serer application will also have "Presentation, Business and data layers" as presentation as 1 layer, Business + DB as 2nd layer.

This can be in Web also for your static wen page scenario. Then the irony differs right for CS and Web applications right?

Web application means, there shall and must me 3 or more layers for sure...
Ok fine abu ;) ...I dont have data base (so the DB layer is not there),coz site is static ;content is on the same presentation HTML file.So "Web application must have 3 layers":- concept cannot be true in the above context...could you point out the exact difference between websites & web application ,if thr's? (common Buzzz is web testing)

See u tomm..bye,gud nite
