practising xpaths

hi all,

am new to selenium.i heard that in real time we will not use xpaths generated by tools..rather we will write our own. So i decided to learn writing xpaths.Can u plz suggest how to practise writing xpaths and are there any tools where we can validate our written xpaths over scripts..

There is add on in firefox X path locator 

or 

use selenium IDE to get Absolute and Relative path.

get basic concept about xpath and it's types

W3schools has plenty of different kind of web related tutorials & references. For XPath you can read http://www.w3schools.com/xpath/

but we can only learn,cannot validate xpaths(like any syntax errors..)
