How to get an element from a table in selenium 1.0

I have a html table of contents, with some 10rows for an example take the table name as fruits.

I need to search the fruitname apple in the fruits table.

the fruitname is a variable it can be anything today it is apple and the next it can be orange.

i can use selenium.iselementpresent("apple"),it searches in the wholepage i want to search only in the particular table in the page.

Need a solution urgently, any ideas on this?
