Hi Friends,

Can anyone tell me the differenece between Load Testing, Stress Testing & Volume Testing?

Stress Tesing is used to describe the tests as system functional testing under unusual heavy loads, heavy inputs, complex queries to a database system.

Volume testing is the test where the system is subjected to large volumes of data. It can be used in component testing. This would be correlated with the code.

Load Testing and Stress Testing - both the terms are interchangeable. Where as Volume Testing comes under Stress testing.
Thanks Malini foy your reply.
Load Testing : To test the performence of the application with volume as constent and increase the number of users up to specific level.

Volume testing : To test the performence of the application with users as constent and increase the volume up to specific level.

Stress Testing : It is used to findout the threshold point.Threshold point means the point at which the system breaks.

1) To test the performence of the application with volume as constent and increse the number of users up to specific level.

2) To test the performence of the application with users as constent and increse the volume up to specific level.

3) This is widely used method. Both users and volume increase up to system breaks.
Thanks Kamali foy your reply.
Thanks for your reply.
There is a good a huge confusion between these two terms. I do not mind if people in the group use any term provided they have same concept to avoid communication losses. One term missing here is performance testing. Generally when we test a system there are few specifications like
Average load, Maximum load, expected performance at average load and system resource requirement like disk space, bandwidth, processor capacity, RAM etc
Performance testing - Under average load, how system perfoms is considered as performance testing. Generally performance is measured in time. Example - Searching record from the database containing 5 million records or time required for sending attachment of size 100 KB
Load / Volume testing - What is the maximum load a system can accept before it breaks. Example - Number of concurrent users, Number of entries in a database at a time, Maximum size of attachment one can put etc
Stress testing - What is the minimum resource level required for handling system transaction under average load. Example - Reducing RAM size to the point where system is barely working
