Unit testing is testing a module by the developer which was developed by him.and white box testing is alos done by the developer for checking the functions, basic path coverage, loops of the application.IF tester has some programming knowledge then he can also do the white-box testing.

so as you said about unit testing , what we do in unit test i mean how do we perform unit testing if we do path testing loop testing in white box testing

In Unit testing, the smallest testable parts of an application, called units, are individually and independently scrutinized for proper operation.
Unit testing involves only those characteristics that are vital to the performance of the unit under test. This encourages developers to modify the source code without immediate concerns about how such changes might affect the functioning of other units or the program as a whole.

White-box testing is a method of testing software that tests internal structures or workings of an application, as opposed to its functionality
While white-box testing can be applied at the unit, integration and system levels of the software testing process, it is usually done at the unit level. It can test paths within a unit, paths between units during integration, and between subsystems during a system–level test. Though this method of test design can uncover many errors or problems, it might not detect unimplemented parts of the specification or missing requirements.

unit testing is done by developer

where white box testing is done by tester.

Hi Akshitha,

Unit testing:

Unit testing is testing the module by the developer , which developed by him.

White box testing:

White box testing is also done by the developer for checking the functions, basic path coverage, loops of the application.IF tester has some programming knowledge then he can also do the white-box testing.

can you please let me know what actions we do perform in unit testing just like in white box testing we do perform basic path coverage and loop testing

Thanks all for the answers, but it will be helpful if someone can give an example, as that can make the concept/definition still more clearer.

in white box testing tester should have to check conditions, loops etc..

http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/37111/White-Box-Testing-Technique  maybe this link will help you to understand.

Unit testing is a smallest seperatable portion of Units in an application.
white box testing involves both Unit testing and Integration testing conducted by developers.

Statement Coverage, Branch / Decision coverage and Path coverage

white box testing s done by the developer n unit testing comes under white box only...it is done with internal structure of code...
