Apache Jmeter team has just announced the new release of Jmeter 2.4.

It is a considerable move from existing v.2.3.4 not just in terms of defect fixes but also the number of 'long awaited' new features like:

• HTTP Proxy can now record HTTPS sessions.
• JUnit sampler now supports JUnit4 annotations.
• Added JSR223 (javax.script) test elements.
• MailReader Sampler can now use any protocol supported by the underlying implementation.
• An SMTP Sampler has been added.
• JMeter now allows users to provide their own Thread Group implementations.
• View Results Tree now supports more display options, including search and Regex Testing.
• StatCalculator performance is much improved; Aggregate Report etc. need far less memory.
• JMS samplers have been extensively reworked, and should no longer lose messages. Correlation processing is improved. JMS Publisher and Subscriber now support both Topics and Queues.

Hi Gyanadeep , very useful comment and idea has given about server . I have some query command like "HTOP,Top" is used in Linux ? Have You working on web application ? can U write steps of Server testing process ? It will be very helpful for everybody.

I am performance test engineer . Usually do the performance check of the application. For that i need to login to the server (Linux) and there i check the status. Use command like "HTOP,Top" to see the server status.
Also we can check individual process status. Like u can see whether any process stuck some where or some problem in any process by using this command " ps -ef grep (process id)

For server monitoring i use Jmeter. There one option is there to see the check the server by putting excess load.

In web server testing some key things keep in mind -
1. We are properly access web application or not.
2. we should check also data are stored on web server properly / same access from server .
3. connection speed / Bandwidth.
4. server performance
5. if server not working then what impact on application .
If any other point anybody can share it will be better.

its very interesting to know about the server and to test the server. In web application its necessary for the performance test engineer to check the server status. As i am the performance test engineer so it will help me a lot.
