What is Test Plan and contents available in a Test Plan?

Test Plan document is a document which contains the plan for all the testing activities to be done to deliver a quality product. Test Plan document is derived from the Product Description, SRS, or Use Case documents for all future activities of the project.

It is usually prepared by the Test Lead or Test Manager.

Hi Riya,

As per software testing services a test plan is a document that describes the testing strategy, testing scope, testing objectives, testing required resources (software, test environment, manpower, hardware), test schedule with the estimate to complete test deliverables.

Test Plan includes the following items:

  • List of features required to be tested
  • All the testing tasks to be performed
  • Assigned ownership of each task
  • Availability and stability of test environment
  • Test design strategy and techniques to proceed with
  • Testing entry and exit criteria to be followed
  • Any risks requiring contingency planning

The test plan is a blueprint to achieve all the software testing activities as per defined processes with minimum monitoring and minimal controlled by the test manager.

As per my views,

Test Plan ; Test Plan is plan of action which is created by Test manager,Test lead where focus is on Timelines,Resources,Entry and Exit criteria,Strategy to follow to complete test,(Black box white Box ) Tools req will come under Test Plan.

Test Plan is project related (project wide)
Test Plan be One or two or multiples,
Test Plan can be changeable.
Test strategy
Test Strategy is organization wide term.
Strategy define by project manager, Team lead ,
Strategy we can not change easily.
