Is the question related to testing the application keeping the performance of the db or running tests on the db itself using its UI ?

can you clarify this please ?

hi Tahir,

Its Running tests on the db itself using its UI.

Ravi,

on different rdbms, there are different ways to test teh dbs performance.

I know a few things on MS sql

  • - they have a utility called "SQL server profiler", which comes when you do a full install of MS Sql 2005 or 2008. There is tools like Database Engine Tuning Adviser wizard and Performance Monitor that comes along with the profiler.
  • - These tools will give you details on which query hits which table , its time, the CPU time that it takes for that query.  There is lot more that you can think on to optimise the performance.
  • - Then based on the time you or the DBA can there is apply techniques like indexing(another vast topic), to optimize your query call .

Please revert if this is not what you are looking for. And if you find something else, please let us know. Would like to know what other techniques could be applied.

Tahir,

U have shared useful information regarding Dbs performance issues.

But while doing Functional Testing in Data Base is Data Verification, Data integrity are key areas to be checked .

OK, fine.

is your question related to a specific task assigned to you or you are asking the question in a theoretical sense.

if its coming from a task assigned to you, would like to know what steps you have done to accomplish that.

thanks..
