Hi,

Yes, I have extensive experience in authoring test cases based on use cases.

How to proceed with writing test case from use case document?
Will answer this with an example Use case, don't have it handy currently. OR if you have any you are good to share.

Who prepare use case in your company?
Best Case : Design Team - Systems Analyst
Worst Case: Test Team - Test Engineers

Based on which document it is prepared?
Ideally BRS/SRS

How it comes to testing?
Design Team will share to Dev and QA both.

Thanks,
Siddiq

Hi Siddiq,

Could you please give example or document for how to write use cases from BRS/SRS? On what bases i should ensure that use cases are written perfectly for a particular feature/functionality?

Very interesting case, when client is unable to provide requirements in the form of document but gives concept of requirements then Use Cases is the way to capture requirements, out of which approved requirements shall be considered for drafting test cases. For example, your project is ATM setup. You may imagine ATM requirements, for both h/w and s/w. You can start identifying its actors and their functionality/needs including security.

Use cases will give liberty to keep on add requirements however client interested requirements only shall be taken into account to build and test the system.
@ Siddiq, Good explanation : ) ( Worst Case: Test Team - Test Engineers :( we stand in all the time).
? How to proceed with writing test case from use case document.
* Identify the possible scenarios and drill down the scenarios in to tests.
Thank You Siddiq & G.N for your valuable inputs..need to discuss more..

Hi,

We can drive test cases from Use case if use case is fully dressed, it means, If use case contains all possible flows of that module, Triggers, Information of the actors, Validation information, Assumptions, Pre-Conditions, Post-conditions, Business Rules, Dependencies (If any), etc... If all these information are available with you in Use case then you can write your test cases. Before writing test cases you should have to write test scenarios.

Best practice to write Test cases is; you should have SRS, test Requirement document, then you should have fully dressed Use case, wireframe (For UI) and create a traceability matrix for coverage.
