Quality Testing

Quality is delighting customers

Disadvantage of  manual. testing
  1. Time consuming
  2. Low reliability
  3. Human resources
  4. Inconsistent
Advantage of automation
  1. Speed
  2. Repeatability
  3. Programming
  4. capabilities
  5. Coverage
  6. Reliability
  7. Reusability
Which Test Cases to Automate
  1. Tests that need to be run for every build of the   application (sanity level)
  2. Tests that use multiple data values for the   same actions (data driven tests)
  3. Tests that require detailed information from   application internals (e.g. GUI attributes)
  4. Functional Testing

Which Test Cases Not to Automate

  1. Usability testing: usage models - how easy is the application to use
  2. One time testing / “ASAP” testing: need to test it NOW
  3. Ad-hoc / random testing: based on intuition and knowledge of application Tests without predictable results
